Where to Play in The Old Mill District
Fishing, Kayaking and More Along the Deschutes
If you are looking to get a little exercise or just unwind a bit at the Old Mill District, you have a number of options open to you.If you are into fly fishing and aren't deterred by cooler temperatures, Orvis' one-of-a-kind 18 "hole" fly casting course remains open (and free) to all comers. And if you aren't into fly fishing, the helpful staff at Orvis will be more than happy to introduce you to the sport.
If fishing isn't your thing, bundle up and take a stroll along the
scenic Deschutes River. The Old Mill District has recently
installed seven historic interpretative signs running along the river
trail from Red Robin Restaurant to the grassy area just past Pastini Pastaria,
celebrating the historic past of what was once Bend's ties to the
lumber industry that once drove its economy. Look for the many trail
signs highlighting the Centenial Loop Trail, Mill A Loop, and
Powerhouse Loop Trail.
If you're feeling really adventurous, you can put a kayak or canoe into the placid waters of the Deschutes and paddle up and down what was once a giant mill pond.
Finally, If Fido needs a break, take advantage of the Riverbend Dog Park, just across the river from the Old Mill District.
